Hey, the anime reviews are fine... I can review too... yeah right.
Anyway, I don't ALWAYS have to be a part of 3.13... so it's fine with me.

ahem.
dudes, since we're delaying the (potential) release of the webcomic, we still need to put something up. some of my frens from the forum suggested anime reviews, but that'd be alienating pete, which totally isn't fair. waht say you guys?
or maybe pete moves the comic reviews over to us? i dunno.... any help? guys?

Chong enjoys helping out newbies as and when they need help. it is a good thing. tell en we will have forums too, they are being set up.
rantz she can do herself, but i can do the html i guess... which me no more amvs for me haha.
tell her to come over, it's much friendlier.
actually, we can do comic, we can do illustrated novel... any style which suits the story (and the artist) let our imaginations roam!

The En Update: She doesn't want to impose on us, though she might consider imposing on KS' new server (if he ever gets one). If this doesn't set my envy points on fire, I don't know what else will.
Wailiong: You seem to be coming up with really good strips... It's making me feel redundant... is this the style we want to go with, now?
Chong: Anything new? En also mentioned that KS was playing his "That's a rhetorical question, right?" routine everytime she wants to know more about servers, and html and what-not. She also said it'd be nice to have forums and a rantz section along with her comic. If you can offer your expertise on this (me being the technology-redundant caveman), she might be more interested to come over to three-thirteen.com.

Hi guys. A little update: En hasn't replied to my request. I will inform you when she does.
I'm currently stoned as to what I want for the comic. It would appear that Wailiong's style is very much similar to Megatokyo, while my writing style borrows heavily from Sluggy. As it is, I'm thinking of a daily strip more than a slightly less regular one. Also, I'm thinking punchline, while we've already agreed that it isn't always necessary. Therefore, I propose we keep the strip Wailiong drew, and if Wailiong can come up with cool stuff to renovate the rest of the strips, that'll be great.
I'll think of a storyline when I can.
Meanwhile, keep up the great work, Wailiong! The characters are SO much better than Sluggy's. I think we might have a good thing going, but it's going to take time to actually write something worthy of Wailiong's art.
Chong, can we see a makeshift front page as and when you can? I might want to have something to inspire me to do more stuff.

ok. try and make it pantsu, not pansu. May have different connotations.
Doesn't seem to have any real storyline running thru the comic, or else my brain really isn't working. but as a test it's good. so we're gonna do the fou framer thing? Ah. Up to wwl I guess.
Expressions work VERY VERY well this time. Liked the toga too. Keep the toga. But toga not bishi enough. You need long flowing hair and a longer face. Of all the 3 peeps, I would think you would have the longest face you know.
Maybe try bolder lines, cos your text itself is #000000, which means it looks like it;s kinda all shouting.
will come back on sunday.
pete> en how?
oh, and lets hold off the WEEKS until we actually have run out of proper ideas. And remember, doing weeks requires actual daily comics. Which ain't gonna happen right? Months would be more like it, but that may be pushing it too far. Let's not try to have weeks or months (heaven forbid years!)
Ok i go sleep.

let's do 3 hundred and thirteen characters. i have no friends other than you guys. how to get fan base?
tell en to tell me when.
i'll take any schtick for a comic, as long as it works. gomen may still be too much, or rather, gomen week.

Cool! Excellent! Essentially it's not even my joke anymore... but I think it works. Can we see the sketch soon?
P.S. see below for explanation of Pusan Chong. Did I even get the word right? It's supposed to be the briefs/bikini/boxer word.

Hehheh... "Gomen" just seemed really appropriate at the first strip, and I figured it could work as a recurring punchline. Guess not. Anyway, let's just call it "Gomen Week" and then move on quickly. How's that?
"Pusan Chong" is Three-thirteen's Shirt-Guy Dom and T-Shirt Tom, right? I know it's supposed to be just an in-joke, but why not? Anyway, Chong, you're going to be the Riff-guy/Largo-dude of the comic... till I find a better stereotype to tack you to. *hehheh* Pusan Chong will not last long, trust me.
I intend to keep it as three characters. We aren't three-thirteen for nothing. No, I'm not going to do thirteen characters.
As for different style of story, that works too. I like it... I'll push Wai Liong to the edge with it... muahahahaha.
P.S. Before I forget, just in case, write all future blogs in Notepad first, so we can hear your original thoughts, and not some abridged version.
BTW, Chong, can we get a fan-base first or something? Like maybe create hype for it... give me a little pressure... hahahaha....Plus, can we host En's webcomic? And, can we help do a page for her? Having two web-comics on the same server might be useful. *heeee*
No, we are not going to call it four-thirteen.com.
---Strip 5

A: I'm writing Sunday's strip. It's going to be a biggest one ever!

C: And NO MORE PUSAN CHONG jokes!
Panel 3-
A: *faces TWO hateful stares*
Panel 4-
A: Go-
B&C: STOP SAYING GOMEN!
---Strip 6

B: A won't be making an appearance today.
Panel 2-
B: C and I have decided to end "Gomen Week" prematurely.
Panel 3-
B: *silent smug*
off-panel A: Argh!!! Stop sticking your fingers in my eye!
Panel 4-
C: (satisfied look) I doubt he'll say "Gomen" for a long time now.

Well, i was typing halfway, tried to load a questionable pic, then all my blog disappeared cos it just does. So I shall sum up.
1. Can we not use gomen???? PLEASE? It kinda overstretches the joke and wears thin, like james and a hamster.
2. WTF is PUSAN CHONG??????????????????????
Otherwise I like where it's going at the moment in the form of an introduction. But try not to squeeze in a 3rd char first, let there be 2 main chars, 3 will be like the current WWF. But small pop ups are fine I guess. We'll see what the artist says. Nice to give a little nudge to our inspiration.. heh-heh.
And from here there's still many ways we can branch out. I'm quite sure that as time goes by WWL will like to try to improve his artwork, and it will, as time goes by, but as time goes by i'm sure he'll like to try new things too or try new styles, so we'll see how that goes.
I like my idea about a different style of story each time, kinda like tales from the crypt. So our 3 guys can narrate the intro, then we go into a story of ANY genre, film noir, comedy, erotica... anything. But this idea is just an idea, and don't let it kill the scriptwriters or the artist. Remember, need me to write or draw, I'm there. HAHA.

Okay... got some inspiration... let's see what I can come up with.
The characters are actually us, but I'm in denial, and I refuse to admit it. It will take me a whole year to accept the fact that I'm doing the exact same thing as Piro from Megatokyo, Ian from Mac Hall and Pete from Sluggy. I also borrowed your "Gomen" catch-phrase, so please don't kill me.
---Strip 2
Panel 1- (about 3 panel lengths)
Ignoring the successes of Megatokyo, Sluggy, Sinfest, MacHall and a billion and one other web-comics, the boys of Three-Thirteen decide to create their own strip, set in the present time but without using themselves as the basis for the main characters! Instead, these three nerd-boys (the characters, not the creators) are inspired to create their own web-based comic, with the staple smart cat, dumb dog, cute girl love-interest formula!
Panel 2-
B: And this differs from Sluggy and Sinfest HOW?
A: Gomen...
---Strip 3
Panel 1-
B: It's been 2 days and you still haven't got a single idea how to begin!
A: That's not true! I'm actually working on something now!
Panel 2-
B: (genuine interest) Really?
A: Yeah! I just need you to draw a few concept sketches.
Panel 3-
B: No problem! Who do you want me to draw?
A: Erm... Well... That is...
Panel 4-
B: You have NO idea, do you?
C: (interjecting) What about Pusan Chong?
A: Gomen...
---Strip 4
Panel 1-
A: (alone) Okay, I've decided. No more silly scripts, only serious stuff from now on!
Panel 2-
A: (still alone) *blank stare*
Panel 3-
B: *stares hatefully at A*
Panel 4-
A: Gomen...

Panel 1-
A: I need a rest. No, really! Do you know how long I took to script this comic?
B: 10 minutes?
Panel 2-
A: Well... uh... that's NOT the point! It's 10 minutes of pure creative genius!
B: Right... so what's the punchline?
Panel 3-
A: Punchline? This comic's supposed to be both serious AND funny, right?
B: So what's the punchline?
Panel 4-
C: Look at me! I'm Pusan Chong!
B: THAT'S the punchline?!?
A: Gomen...

hmz... which means all of the earlier discussion is rather void?
So right now we're going for a "real-life" (as much as we can actually get "real-life") situation thingy? With both serious and funny...
I suppose Pete has to come out with some characters and scenarios? Like where we're going to kick off for example...

You know, the more I think of this, the more it sounds like Knights of Xentar... especially with the "bad guy" being "good guy"'s friend or something. Just that Quiryn (are we confirmed on this?) isn't a blardy loser like Desmond. Definitely not.
Sancta Sanctorium is Latin for Holy Sanctuary, Holiest of Holy Places or Safest of Sanctuaries. It's a small chapel in the Vatican City known as the Oratory. Dr. Stephen Strange, Sorceror Supreme had his own sancta sanctorium.
I'm going to disagree on the "diametrically opposite" conflict bit. The truth is, there is no Dark Side, Light Side here, no Heroic Champion VS Evil Scheming Fiend. I want to have no distinct enemies in this story. Logic will look bad at first, but soon we'll come to sympathise, maybe even empathise with his situation. Magic will always be the good guy, but can he do EVERYTHING he's expected to do? I think not.
WL, your sketches are right on, as always. Love the characters, and I look forward to playing around with them. I think Arkel's going to be the coolest baddie ever.... we should submit him to the Freedom Force contest or something.
As for direction, I'm sticking to my concept, so you guys can either choose to go along with it, or think of something new. Just because I'm self-appointed head scribe doesn't mean the concept has to be mine. *heh*

posted by direcow at 6/06/2002 08:16:00 AM
basically what i figure this out is a very... matrixy thing, that in a world of angels and hard corners, they still lies organic shape, but barely.
what does sancta sanctorum mean?
acutally the story sounds good, just that maybe we shouldn't use logic versus magic, but perhaps something more... i dunno. diametrically opposite? Mogic is not a lack of logic for sure. Not sure if i'm making fallacious statements here. Thing is... perhaps we should do something along the lines of the undark versus the unlight. I dunno. Something with more clear cut roles. Either that or we just give names to the differenent factions, like bob and marge, then explain their roles in the intro sequences.
Don't mind Quiryn, and the Logic Arkel? Y always makes it sound more organic and magical, and the harsher the consonants and the sounds, the more... logical? something along those lines. Not Urkel though.
Otherwise it all works fine...
yeah, the mageling will find his way, and a group of adventurers along too, who will live and die along the way. I suggest his love interest be Naia!!!!!
Was thinking of having some coming of age story along the way where logic turns out to be his childhood fren or sumthing, but i guess.. not.
So for backgrounds, magic will probably grow up in some peaceful village, being encroached by logic. thing is, perhaps we should jump into the story, and fill out the back story slowly, to leave suspense for the viewers. I know that they'll know that Magic will be some impt guy in the end, but so what? At least we didn't tell them what scope he had...
posted by direcow at 6/06/2002 07:21:00 AM
To answer your questions one by one:
Setting: Unknown. I'll leave it up to you. I'm not really sure what kind of backgrounds you're most familiar with, so this is your call, buddy. Or even better, Chong can render some backgrounds for this... again, I dunno how... we'll work something out.
Mageling: If you haven't realised already, I'm basing this guy on Jesus Christ. But religion doesn't come into play here... think a cross between the Son of God, Anakin Skywalker and Arthur Dent (from Hitchhiker's Guide). He will gain his knowledge eventually, but whether it takes an outside source or not... that remains to be seen (i.e. I have NO idea).
Logic: I had the Matrix in mind, but I also had the Werewolf belief in the Triad of Weaver, Wyrm and Wyld. Logic here would be the Wyrm, but not an evil one, just one with a power that corrupts. His abilities are rooted in the Technocracy in Mage. We have the power because people believe that we are powerful, but without belief, Logic does not die but will have limited strength. Logic does not totally rule the Earth, but if Magic doesn't stop him soon, he will.
I'm trying to create my own myth, while borrowing heavily on both ancient myth (i.e. Greek, Anglo-Saxon, Scandinavian) and modern myth (Star Wars, Matrix, World of Darkness). If you find me stepping on too many copyrights... shoot me.

It's okay Chong, you don't need to be politically-correct here. I did that strip idea after reading Sluggy Freelance for some 3 hours non-stop, so I was in that mood. Maybe I'll do my own comic strip or something. *heh*
But regarding the story, no worries. We can do serious, if that's what we're all more familiar with. Since WL doesn't want to get too "acquainted" with the characters, perhaps we could stick to the fantasy world that you guys thought of.
---
Time is inconsequential. The place is more important. For this is where the story begins, this is where life begins. This is where hope is born. This is the creation of the Sancta Sanctorum.
Welcome to our world, where order and chaos, good and evil are but two sides of the same coin. Where Balance is worshipped, and yet defied at the same time. Where tempered Magic is the right hand of Balance, and child-like Logic squirms at her left foot. And so it was for milennia, when all was calm and tranquil. This would have been the peace sought after by the world, but it is illogical to have balance, and so, one day, Logic rebelled, his body draining the souls of his followers.
And so it began, Logic's new found power seemed to give him new purpose, and it corrupted him. His minions (for they were but slaves to his will now) built monuments to their new Master, tall towers in tribute to his totality, and the more they built, the wider Logic's will could act. Whole cities grew out of where self-sufficient shacks once stood, disrupting the cycle of life for many. Those that were weaker of will joined with Logic, and worshipped his religion of mathematics and physics. Those that were strong of spirit were tortured and maimed, and imprisoned till their hearts were broken or they died first.
Balance felt her power decreasing, as Logic's might increased exponentially (for even exponents were part of Logic's arsenal). Having no other choice, she sent Magic to the world, that he might become the Force which would counter Logic's power.
The Sancta Santorium was his birthplace, and he imbued the structure with his magic. It protected him till he was ready to face his brother and opponent, Logic.
So it is. So it is written. So it shall be.
---
Okay, we need names now: So far, the two main characters are Magic's Child and Logic's Pawn.
I'm thinking of calling Magic Quirin (or Qirin, Qiryn, Quiryn) and Logic Akilah (or some bastard form of the name, i.e. Akylar, Ekila).
posted by Petey at 6/05/2002 06:18:00 PM
wwl, pete did write something for you to illustrate... but i suggest we start from the basics before we move along.
the previous joke, while funny, would not fit in anywhere at the moment if we don't define characters etc. after which we can fit it in... cos it'll be good! :), but seriously if we do something set in some ancient forest, then it wouldn't make sense.
posted by direcow at 6/05/2002 08:09:00 AM
eh? thing is, we must first decide what direction we're going for before this thing will work. having a 3 member team will of course decrease thingamajiggity, but what i'm asking is
what style do we want?
ongoing like megatokyo (more like a novel now)
comic with ongoing, but with more defined stories like sluggy or baby blues
comics with defined stories like sherman's lagoon
comics which suck, like james
or comics which are one-shots, like the below, or like those political comics...
i'm leaning towards number 1 or 2.
then we decide if we make it true to life, autobiographical, or ficticious.
Set on earth, or in some fantasy land etc...
lots of things to consider, going into this and all.

Hello and welcome to the discussion blog for www.three-thirteen.com, tentatively (very much permanently, actually) called 313.
And for our first strip idea... I propose:
Panel 1:
Fanboy A (dressed as Wolverine): We're going to a Marvel Comics costume party, and as usual, she's taking her time.
Girlfriend B comes down dressed as Catwoman: Let's go!
Panel 2:
Fanboy A is pleasantly stunned, but regains his composure: For the last time, B, it's a *Marvel* party, stop wearing DC costumes! That means no Catwoman, Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Huntress, Batgirl or any other ex-girlfriend of Superman or Batman!
Girlfriend B looks stunned.
Panel 3:
*silence*
Panel 4:
Girlfriend B: Does that mean I can go dressed as Poison Ivy?
Fanboy A: *sigh*
